It was very spontaneous decision to go to Chill and Ride this year, because day before I did not had a place where to stay, nor the train ticket. Also those who have been at the Chill and Ride, know that without the car it’s hard to go around places. On top of all these technical issues, I still did not felt recovered from my knee injury and my ankle keeps protesting all the time:/
But heey, I was telling to myself, you go there, have a great time together with Carro, JB and the Killerfish guys. When else you will have such a great opportunity to spare together with two of the world’s best wakeboarders?!
This fact really kept me motivated to find the way how to go to Chill and Ride.
More than in the last minute, I was very lucky to receive an amazing room in France La Wanzenau only 10 km away from the Chill and Ride location. Kevin was the guy who made this happen and Carro and JB where so nice giving me the lift every day. I am very thankful to them! So that’s how my second year at the Chill and Ride wakeboard festival started.
I arrived in Freistett on Wednesday afternoon and Kevin picked me from the train station and we went directly to catch up with Carro and JB. After getting some lunch we went out for wake session. It was extremely bumpy and super windy, really hard conditions for wakeboarding that day. So we all had super short runs, as by those conditions it was not fun at all, more like wakeboarding in the open sea.
After hardcore wakeboarding we went to Carro’s and JB’s appartment to have dinner. Carro made for us her's special pasta with corn and tuna. Was really tasty and red wine, let us sink into great conversations for and about wakeboarding.
Next day we started early, so that we could ride on the flat water. JB and Carro rides so well, everything they do looks so easy and controlled. I really liked to watch them and also listen to their coaching tips. I had a chance to improve a bit my technic on my basic inverts. Also tried new stuff till I hurt my ankle again and needed to stop wakeboarding.
Later on we all made some BBQ and get ready for the Chill and Ride Opening Party, where we suppose to meet up with Charlotte Bryant. The Opening party was really great, I also got to meet there wakeboarding legend Shawn Watson, Wakeaholics and my Latvian peers.Could it be better start for an Opening Party?!
Day after the party, we started really easy and I finally started to feel kind of momentum for wakeboarding. No wonder, as I again had 2 weeks break. That was a good day for all of us. On the evening we had a lot of fun together with Killerfish guys, however we left the party kind of early as on the next day was Team Challenge Contest.
By the way, day before I did not even know, if I will take part in Team Challenge or not, because our supposed Team broke up, so I kept it open for new opportunities and see what happens!
So on Saturday morning, it was planned that I will have training session together with Killerfish guys and the others will prepare for Team Challenge. But it changed, because suddenly the organizator of Chill and Ride grabbed me and let me know that there is still one Team who is looking for a girl. These were really great news, as I got a chance to be in one Team together with Sascha and his Malibu 24.
So instead, right before the contest started I went out with Team Malibu for a wake session as we were in the second heat. We did a great job and the wake was soo great. It was big and round, I love to ride wakes like these. Afterwards we had a crazy party on the boat. Where we got some beers with Charlotte Bryant, Shawn Watson and all the other great people. It was soo cool, because people were really relaxed and ready for the party, we roped around 8 boats together in one line, so it was possible to go from one boat to another and just have a great time.
We all had hard start in the next day, as we decided to stay longer at the party day before:) Any ways I did a good pass at the pro women contest and got 5th place in the end. I was nicely suprised by Aisling, she is really killing it! Many thanks again to Sascha for pulling me and let me to ride on his boat. That was truly a pleasure!
